Nothing is Free

Nothing is free.  I don’t believe that “free time” exists.  I choose to think of the time we have left over as “extra time” because if it was “free” we would likely waste it.  For the better part of my life I did exactly that; wasted my time because I didn’t appreciate the value it held.  I assumed I would have the same amount again tomorrow.  I spent endless time in front of the TV or video games.  I slept until I couldn’t sleep anymore. I filled my “free time” with mindless activities to pass the days.  Then, all of the sudden, I couldn’t seem to slow life down.  Before I knew it the time was flying by.  Minutes, hours, days, then years were gone in the blink of an eye.

It wasn’t until I joined the military that I realized the true value of time.  It’s not free in the slightest because of what I had to do to earn those moments of peace and serenity.  We all need time to relax, time to spend with friends and family doing the things we love If it was free we wouldn’t appreciate how little we have.

Every moment in our day has a purpose whether we realize it or not.  There are 86,400 seconds in a day and what we do with each of those seconds plays a pivotal role in who we want to become and the type of life we live.

Only you can choose how that time is spent.  And you have to place a personal value on each and every moment.  I have said it before and I will say it again; the only moment that is guaranteed is the one we are in.  Don’t assume you’ll get another 86,400 again tomorrow because that time may never come.  Embrace the opportunities you have in front of you today.  Use the time in the ways that lead you to where you want to go.  Don’t wait for opportunities to land in your lap but rather go find them.  Pour your heart and soul into each moment you have and if God gives you another opportunity tomorrow…do it all over again.
