How powerful is perspective?

It should come as no surprise to anyone reading this that today’s world is full of negativity, despair and unhappiness.  In fact, most media outlets spoon feed us content that fosters that very perspective of the world through nearly every platform available. But the reality is, we don’t have to accept anyone else’s view of the world, or life for that matter, as our own.  We get to choose for ourselves which perspective we wish to carry forward with us through life so the questions then become…which perspective should we choose and what is the true power of perspective?

Well let’s start here…

If there’s one thing I know for certain in life it’s that there are very few things in our lives that we have complete control over but our perspective will always be one of them.

The hard truth is, we can’t always control our environment.  We can’t always control the circumstances in which we find ourselves and although we all wish we could, we typically can’t control the amount of hardship or adversity we face in life either.

It sucks that some people seem to experience more hardship in life while others appear to live a life on “easy street”.  But what looks like easy street for someone may feel like a walk through hell for someone else.  And what may look like a walk through hell might feel extremely manageable for another.

What really matters is not how we see the lives of others but rather how we look at our own life and the world around us.

The way we choose to look at the good, the bad and the ugly in our lives makes all the difference in the world but that starts with our acceptance that we have a choice.

Just because the world around us wants us to accept negativity as the foundation for our lives doesn’t mean we have to.  Just because it’s easier to be down on our ourselves when things aren’t going our way doesn’t mean that is the only way we can look at those challenges.  And just because everyone else around us thinks, acts and talks a certain way doesn’t mean we have to also…

Looking at obstacles in our lives as opportunities to grow gives us a chance to turn the negative moments in our lives into a source of inspiration.

Choosing to look at failure as a way to adjust course, regain our bearings and try again, instead of as a negative mark on our record, unlocks infinite opportunities to try again.

By looking at the circumstances in our lives that we don’t like as an opportunity to pursue change instead of an excuse to be frustrated and irritable, we give ourselves the ability to actually pursue and implement the change we desire in our lives.

And by looking at the most difficult moments in our lives not as a reason to feel sorry for ourselves but rather as an opportunity to grow stronger, to build better relationships with those around us and to gain a better appreciation for the good parts of our lives, provides us with an invaluable opportunity to find more happiness in how we live.

But it all comes down to us acknowledging that we have to make a choice for which perspective we look at life through.

Thanks for reading!  But before you go…

Have you checked out my Youtube channel, A Dad’s Voice, yet? Check out the content here, hit that subscribe button and help me spread some positivity and inspiration with the world.

My father always tells me, “My hope is that you’ll hear my voice in your head long after I’m gone reminding you of everything I’ve taught you.” The truth is, my parents have taught me so much about life and I hear their voices replaying those lessons in my head over and over again every day.

Now as a parent myself, I’m realizing that I want the same for my daughter. For her to grow up hearing my voice teaching her all of the right lessons to guide her through life and for that voice to stick in her head long after I’m gone. In fact, I think most parents probably feel the same way.

But what messages are we using our voice to share? What are we teaching our kids? I created this channel to help spread positive and inspirational messages and lessons about life in a world otherwise full of negativity.

This channel is my way of sharing my voice and my perspective on life with the rest of the world. The same voice, perspective and messages I want my daughter to grow up hearing.
