Life is like art class…

I sucked at art growing up but somehow I always got an A.  For those of you who knew me growing up, I didnt get many A’s in school.  Art and Gym, that was about it.  I loved doing the art, I just wasn’t good at it.  I rememebr turning in projects and cringing anticipating a failing grade just to be suprised by another A.  I quickly realized that I was never judged or graded on how “good” I did.  It didn’t many times I had crumpled up a paper to start over, and it didnt matter how frustrated I got with myself, all that mattered were three things; I showed up, I tried and I finished the project.  The more I think about it, the more clear it is, that’s how life works too in it’s simplest form.

Show up, try and don’t quit.

It doesn’t matter how many mistakes you make.  It doesnt matter how many times you have to start over.  Show up, try and don’t quit.

Sometimes just showing up is enough.  My life has kicked my ass time after time but I keep showing up.  I have made so many mistakes that I know God is up there laughing but I keep trying to fix them.  I have hurt people and I have been hurt but I never give up.

We dont have to be excellent at life to succeed.  We just need to show up, try and never quit.

Showing up was the easiest part.  Trying took effort but never giving up is the hard part.  When things get difficult and we grow frustrated with ourselves or others and it’s common to want to give up.  There have been countless times in my life where I contemplated quitting – but I didn’t.  I held on because once you quit on something the first time it only gets easier from there.

Life really isn’t as hard as we make it out to be.  The more you show up the more you learn.  The more you try the better you get and if you never give up – you can’t lose.

Be patient with yourself.  Projects take time.  When you wake up each morning and get out of bed – that’s showing up.  When give everyday the best you’ve got – that’s trying.  And when life kicks your ass and things get tough or don’t go your way but you decide to keep fighting anyway – that’s not giving up.

I may have sucked at art but I “Aced” it because I showed up, gave it everything I had and never quit and I’ve come to appreciate that life is the same way.
