Not everyone will treat you with respect. Most people don’t follow the golden rule. People lie, cheat and steal without regard to how their actions may impact others. Some people will use you as a stepping stone to get ahead in life and then push you to the curb and sometimes, you do everything right and things still don’t go your way. When it comes down to it, life is challenging and it often appears that there is more bad in this world than good, but I believe it all depends on where you look.
In all reality, you don’t have to look very hard to find negativity. It’s everywhere. It’s on the news, on social media, it’s in traffic, and it’s at work and school. Negative people are without question, the majority and with negative people often come negative experiences. Here’s the hardest part; living a life of positivity takes more effort. You have the dig through the clouds of negativity that surround you if you want to live a different lifestyle, which is why most people choose not to. Most people just succumb to the negativity and build their life around it because it’s easier. They just mimic the negative world around them because it’s easier than fighting to implement the mindset needed to be positive.
My Facebook news feed is full of negativity and hatred which is why I share every positive story or post I see. We have to fight back. If you want to live a life for others, full of positivity and happiness, you have to fight for it. That’s the reality and should you choose to change your mindset to embrace the power of positivity, there will still be others who chose not to and remain fixated in the negative. Everyday requires a conscious choice to swim against the current. Only through conscious repetition does positivity become your new reality. This is exactly why so many people are unhappy because they choose not to fight for happiness and they wait for it to fall into their lap, but it never does.
I live in chronic pain and it will never go away. It would be easy to be negative and upset all day. I know this because after I was first injured, I tried this. I tried the pity party and the self-sorrow because that’s what my instincts told me to do and that’s what the world told me was acceptable. Then, I found the much-needed perspective that I share in my second book, Secrets from Strangers, and I forced myself to rewire my instincts. How you ask?
I started looking in different places to find positivity and inspiration. If all you see is negativity around you, change where you look. Sometimes you need to meet new people, drive different routes to work, make changes to your routine, and begin socializing with different people. Try watching different T.V. shows and reading different books. Identify and eliminate the negativity that fills your life. You must change your perspective and try new things if you want a different result. If you are struggling to find positivity and happiness in life, it’s because you are looking in the wrong places. Try something new.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again; for every person who wants to see you succeed there are at least two who want to see you fail. That’s the reality we live in. Spend more time with the people who inspire you and give you strength and don’t waste your time an energy with the people who don’t.
Good people exist but we often overlook them because we are fixated on the bad. This is the entire premise of my book, Secrets from Strangers. We spend more time focusing on the people who try to bring us down and the difficult situations we face in life which is why we are blinded by negativity. When you focus on the dark in the world you will fail to notice the light.
Start focusing on the positive people and I bet you the positive experiences will begin to flow. Spend more time doing the things that bring you joy with the people who make you happy. Then when you find positivity in life, share it with others. It spreads like wildfire. Fill your news feed with positive vibes and stop wasting your time and energy being consumed by the negative. There is already enough of that to go around.
