It sucks that life doesn’t always go our way. It also sucks that as soon as we take life in stride, obstacles suddenly appear to slow us down. But maybe they aren’t there to slow us down but rather to make sure we don’t become complacent. To ensure that we don’t take life for granted and we don’t lose sight of where we were headed. To remind us of how strong we actually are and that every day should be better than our last. Maybe or maybe not. That is for you to decide…
The best part about life is that we get to chose how we live it. We make a choice everyday for who we want to be. Some people let the world decide for them while others carve out their own place in this universe.
If you are like me, at some point in your life you chose to stand up when the world around you sat. You began swimming upstream because you believed that your life was meant to go against the current that society offers you. The challenge comes with the obstacles that are thrown our way. For those of you who truly challenge yourself to be the best you can be, God has a way of testing your perseverance.
You embrace a core set of values and beliefs as pillars to your life style and legacy. You chase goals that set you apart from the rest of the world. But chasing your goals comes with a cost. Trust. Trust to not second guess ourselves, which wears on us. It’s hard to trust in yourself when you face a roadblock that towers you. Trusting in yourself means you have no one to blame but yourself and that’s hard. It also means that you believe you have what it takes to make it through the tough times ahead. Trusting that despite the “failures” along the way, you are resilient enough to push through. It also requires that you trust in the people who surrounded you and support you along your journey.
What I often lose sight of how far I have come. In pursuit of tomorrow, I forget about yesterday. When I look back through my life it’s filled with one roadblock after another – but here I stand. I am stronger than I ever thought I’d be. At the time I never thought I would make it through. The people around me picked me back up to face those obstacles head on. Obstacles that, at the time, seemed invincible. Eventually, I had to tell myself that enough was enough. There is no guarantee that I will come out on top but if I fail, I will fail knowing I poured everything I had into the battles along the way. I promised myself I would never regret not trying hard enough. I promised myself that when I set my sights on something, the only thing that could hold me back was God himself calling me home.
It’s not just about where you go in life, but more importantly the type of person you are when you get there. Those battles along the way are what define us. Rely on the people around you. Trust in yourself, and pour your heart and soul into everything you do.
I believe in you but the real question is…do you believe in yourself?
